Astraflex 1000 Camera (VERY RARE)

The Astraflex '1000' camera is essentially an Edixa Reflex, Model C, camera that was imported in minuscule numbers in the 1950's by Sterling Howard Photo of the Bronx, NY. Rather than the traditional Edixa nameplate, a special frontplate, engraved "Astraflex '1000'" is attached.

For many years, I have been seeking to acquire an Astraflex marked Edixa camera for my collection. Recently acquired, this is only the Astraflex '1000' camera I've ever encountered in the past 12 years of camera collecting so of course, I was quite delighted to obtain it.

The Astraflex name can also be encountered on the Contax/Pentacon SLR (Astraflex '35) and the Exakta Varex VX (Astraflex 55) SLR camera of the same period. I have one of the Contax/Pentacon Astraflex cameras displayed on my Contax/Pentacon camera page and an Astraflex 55 camera on my Exakta VX and Varex VX web page. All are very uncommon!

The Astraflex '1000' came to me with a Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f2.8 preset Tessar lens and several photos of the camera from different angles are shown below along with a photo of the instruction booklet for the camera.
